This is the free browser demo of Spell Unbound. The full game arrives on Steam on 17 November 2026 and can be wishlisted now.

THE STORY

The Grand Library is no more. Fire has engulfed the only place you have ever known. The Great Flame marches ever on, consuming what was once your home, the people you knew, the friends you had, and the world that surrounded them. Few survived, and those who did have made a community of one another in the last bastion upon these scorched lands: a structure that even the world's oldest scribe, your own father, has no record of.

The Megalith.

The Megalith stands tall, stretching well above the highest mountains, piercing the clouds. The Megalith roots itself deeper than any tree could reach or any ocean could sink. The Megalith speaks to all who survived the Great Flame's hunger, asking that they take refuge within its walls.

Out of dozens of families, yours survived. Out of thousands of spells, one survived. All that is left to do is descend into what lies below, bind and capture any monster that crosses your path, and collect the first of three orbs, in hope that you can bring back the world everybody once knew.

Each orb breathes new life into the Sigil-Font, and into the Megalith.

THE LAST SURVIVING SPELL

In Spell Unbound you traverse an ever-changing dungeon, using your mouse to draw circles around the monsters that inhabit it so that you may bind and capture them. That loop is your one and only means of attack. Worry not, for it is a versatile one. Keep your loops small, giving your foes little wiggle room, and a tight loop will slow them. And if your hand is steady enough to close a precise circle, you may just be rewarded with a strike as precise as the line that earned it. Be careful, though: your line can only take so much strain before it snaps, and you will not draw again until you recover.

As you progress, make sure to avoid the traps, the projectiles and the enemies themselves, for your hand can only take so much before you are sent back to the beginning.

THE DESCENT

Once you descend, you choose your own path down a branching map, walked one room at a time: a small pack, an elite with its escort, a treasure with its guards, a trap-dense gauntlet, or even a merchant known as Quillgut, who deals sigils out of a dead scribe's ledger. You never know who or what is hiding in a room until you enter it.

Every floor holds the chance of an item that will shape the way you play, leaving you ever stronger for the boss who lies at the end of each act. Whether you die along the way or conquer the depths, your run will end. The hub, however, carries on. Use the resources you find to strengthen yourself, buy items before your next attempt, or expand the Megalith's rooms and capabilities.
